New Novel Gives Insight into Author's Testimony About God

(PRWEB) March 23, 2008 -- Del Witherspoon's newest novel, Steamboats and Butterflies: A New Beginning (paperback, 978-1-60477-708-6), has just hit bookshelves, and readers will be delighted to know the book provides more than just entertainment--it also gives sound biblical answers to troubling life questions. This novel describes the life of a half-breed Indian boy growing up during the unsettled era of the mid-1800s. Due to the prejudices shown against those of mixed heritage, Dan's family leaves Georgia and seeks refuge in the Cherokee lands around Lookout Mountain. Later, they are again forced to move west under a government directive. His father abandons the migration and brings his family back to Alabama. Dan finds himself straddling two cultures, not sure of his acceptance in either. But can Dan eventually overcome his false pride and distrust to become an ambassador for Christ?

Says Witherspoon, who is part Cherokee, "I believe God will use this book (with His Word) according to His purpose, perhaps to change lives. I encourage Christians to place the book in the hands of those who are lost and insecure in their beliefs. Hopefully the reader will be encouraged by receiving guidance from the Scriptures."

A retired teacher with a keen interest in the history of the South during the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, Witherspoon enjoys writing about the ordinary people who worked on the riverboats and lived in the small communities during these times. Steamboats and Butterflies is partially autobiographical in that many of the areas and events described in the book reflect the author's personal experience--and the book itself is a reflection of his own personal testimony.

Xulon Press, a part of Salem Communications Corporation, is the world's largest Christian publisher, with more than 5,000 titles published to date. Retailers may order Steamboats and Butterflies through Ingram Book Company and/or Spring Arbor Book Distributors.
